Challenge

The primary challenge was to prevent the extensive use of concrete from feeling cold or sterile. We needed to balance the industrial nature of the shell with functional family living requirements, ensuring the open-plan space felt intimate and "cozy" despite its clean lines and high ceilings.

Solution

We introduced a rich material palette featuring oak chevron flooring, minimalist matte cabinetry, and moss-green velvet seating to soften the concrete shell. To maintain the cozy atmosphere, we used a mix of functional track lighting and a sleek, modern fireplace as a focal point. Custom recessed shelving was integrated directly into the concrete-look walls to provide storage without cluttering the open-plan layout.

Results

The result is a light-filled, balanced sanctuary that feels both grounded and airy. The "concrete and wood" mix achieved a timeless look that meets the family’s desire for a clutter-free, tranquil environment without sacrificing the home’s bold, contemporary character.
